Festival 2005
Not long to wait!
Hello to all of our Yackandandah Festival Folkies. We have another great weekend of exciting and varied music lined up for our eighth festival. We would love you to be there.
Whatever your taste, there will be something there for you. There are performers and bands who have featured on Triple J, international, Australian and local acts, folk and blues, acoustic and electric sounds.
We have new committee members, new sponsorships and volunteers for the weekend of the festival. The festival organisers are a totally volunteer group running a fantastic community event.
If you would like to be involved we need buskers, local people who are willing to give performers a bed, more volunteers to help out on the weekend, singers for the choir and community groups to be a part of the Friday night celebrations.
Some of our sponsors for 2005 are Indigo Shire, Readymix, Yackandandah Community Petrol Station (YCDCo), Star Hotel, local motels, B and Bs, Caravan Park and local businesses. The Early Bird Ticket application form is on the back of this newsletter. This is a fabulous deal for quality music on your doorstep! See you in Yack.

Mumming is coming...
A Mumming is an English tradition that goes back to medieval times. They are simple in structure and are intended to celebrate diversity in our community by different groups identifying themselves through costume, masks, noise, banners and flags. It is not intended for groups to take themselves too seriously and dressing in caricature is encouraged!
Usually a stationary event, Yackandandah will change the concept to a non-vehicular parade and will include every age group in the community in an attempt to provoke wonder, delight and surprise in the participants and in the spectators. A trophy will be awarded to the group that stands out the most.
Expressions of interest are sought from people interested in participating in the parade and also participating in a workshop to make a banner for your group. Further information and an expression of interest form can be found here.
Buskers Wanted
As always, buskers are welcome to put their hat out at the festival. We welcome musicians and performers of all types. This year will see a Buskers’ Stage in the street all day Saturday and Sunday. Buskers are invited to put their name on the chalkboard for a 10 –15 minute performance on the stage. This should provide a fascinating mix of free entertainment. (* If you like what you see, put your hand in your pocket and show your appreciation; if you don’t, move on to something else!)
Watch the festival program for the location of the Buskers’ Stage.
Our judges will be on the lookout for talent and will be awarding prizes
once again for the best buskers in the junior and senior sections.
