Festival 2007

Question: Laura Love

How can we improve on such a fantastic festival?

In 2006 we had great performers, fine weather, a beautiful environment and a welcoming community which was recognized in three state and national awards.

Answer:

Make our celebratory 10th Festival even better with a major new venue, by
substantially increasing our performer budget, introducing On Line Ticketing for your
convenience, restructuring the enormously popular Sunday Market and asking the Choir to
sing festival favorites.

We have been very busy putting all of this together. Some of the highlights for 2007 are
described below and we can’t wait to welcome you all in Yack on the weekend of 16-18th
March 2007. Join us !

Thanks to Readymix, YCDCo, Tourism Alliance Victoria and the Indigo Shire who are major sponsors for 2007.

Opening Parade

If you would like to play last years whacky instruments in this years Opening Parade, following a beat set by some Beechworth drummers, then come to The Courthouse at 6:00pm on the night of the parade (Friday 16th March) to get an instrument and learn the beat. Bring anyone else along and get with the rhythm and have some fun.

Venues for 2007

There will be a 300 seat marquee on the Yackandandah Primary School grounds for the 2007 festival. This will make a new, more comfortable space and travel between venues will be even easier.

You can download a map showing all of the venues here.

Ukelele Dreaming

If you have always had a secret desire to learn the ukulele then this is for you! We have received a grant to support music making with new instuments at the folk festival coutesy of the Ruth Whyte Bequest. We have purchased 20 ukuleles (that will be the property of Yackandandah) to form a ukulele orchestra, and will be running a ukulele workshop on the Saturday morning with a small performance somewhere over the weekend. So if you are interested, make a note of this when you get your program as space will be limited unless you have your own instrument.

Program Highlights

Totally Gourdgeous

Totally Gourdgeous play instruments made from gourds, but that's just the start of it. Four of Australia's most adventurous singer songwriters musicians; Penelope Swales (guitar), Carl Pannuzzo (drums), Mal Webb (bass, mbira and bugle) and Andrew Clermont (violin, mandolin and guitar) sing songs of love, fellowship and environmental sanity. Folk-Funk-Philosophy. Outrageous eclectic beauty, united under gourd. Imagine Joni Mitchell and James Brown getting down in Bob Marley's pumpkin patch in glitzy costumes. www.totallygourdgeous.com
