The Great Yackandandah Jam Project
is seeking fun loving people who would enjoy making music with others.Community members of all ability levels are encouraged to participate in the Great Yackandandah Jam project that involves multitudes of people playing a range of instruments and singing. The musical piece to be performed as a highlight of the Yackandandah Folk Festival on March 15th 2008 will be a creative extension of the recent Y-Talk report that reflects the uniqueness of life in Yackandandah.
The composition, commissioned by the Yackandandah Folk Festival through funding from the Festivals Australia Regional Residencies program, will be composed and directed by community music champions and members of acclaimed folk group Blackwood James Rigby and Jane Thompson who have recently researched and gathered local stories and material that has inspired their creative work.
Anyone with a voice or musical instrument –string, brass, wind or percussion (doesn’t matter how long since you’ve played it) is most welcome to participate. Community parts will be very easy to learn and students from Yackandandah Primary school will be included in the project. There will also be opportunities for those with higher skills to take leadership roles. Some of the festival’s featured performing musicians will also participate.
Rehearsal sessions with the Yackandandah Strum Club will be held adjacent to Sunday festival choir rehearsals. Written and listening resources are available on line at www.makingmusic.com.au
The composers would like to have an idea of the range of musicians who will be participating in the project to inform their musical arrangements and so we are inviting people to register their interest to participate as soon as possible.
